Open letter to the auto dealers on auction sites: If you are going to put a reserve price within $1,000 of your sticker price, why even bother with an auction? Why not just list the vehicle as an ad or with a "buy it now" price equal to your sticker price? Do you really think someone is going to pay over sticker? I mean, all someone has to do is look at your "official" website to see what the sticker is — if that person really wants the car, he will just go into the dealer or call and offer full price. Why waste everyone's time (and your money) repeatedly listing the same car when you know the auction is never going to result in a sale?

You'd be really surprised what people will pay in a bidding war vs. a sticker price. People get attached to auctions and get competitive. It's strange.

This is so true! I remember I listed a "like new" fireplace screen on eBay a few years ago and included in the description where I bought it and for how much. When the bidding war was over, it sold fo 15% more than I said I paid.
AMAZING!
